What's left behind the scenes

Neal Cross admitted that he was inspired to create the series by detectives Sherlock Holmes and Columbo. From the former, Senior Inspector John Luther borrowed his abilities and unconventional approach to solving crimes. As for Columbo, the series owes its format to him: the viewers know who the criminal is, but they do not know how or when they will be exposed and taken into custody.
