Short description

What's left behind the scenes
- To prepare for her role in the series, Claire Danes met with CIA employees and watched videos featuring patients with bipolar disorder. Additionally, she consulted with writer Julie Fast, who suffers from the same disorder.
- Abu Nazir's son is named Isa. This is how Arabic-speaking Muslims refer to Jesus.
- Laura Fraser originally played Jessica Brody in the pilot, but was replaced by Morena Baccarin before the first broadcast.
- Some of the photographs interspersed throughout the opening credits are actual photos of Claire Danes as a young woman.
- The entire fourth season was filmed in South Africa. According to director and producer Leslie Linka Glatter, the most difficult part was finding locations that resembled the outskirts of American cities.
- The fifth season marked the first time an entire season of an American series was filmed in Berlin, the capital of Germany.
- Damian Lewis landed the role without even auditioning. Producers Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa were so impressed by Lewis's performance in Lodge H. Kerrigan's thriller 'In God's Hands' (2004) that they cast him in 'Homeland' after a short phone conversation.
- The sixth season was filmed leading up to the end of the 2016 election race between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. The producers expected Clinton to win, so they cast Elizabeth Marvel as the president-elect, as the series largely reflected current events. When Trump unexpectedly won the election, the show's creator, Alex Gansa, decided against reshooting, arguing that any series is a product of its writers' fiction. The season premiered three months later than usual (in January), airing in the window between the climax of the election campaign and the inauguration of the new president.
- Ben Affleck was asked to direct the pilot episode, and he would have gladly accepted the request if not for an agreement with his then-wife, Jennifer Garner, stating that if one parent was away filming, the other would not work and would stay home with the children.
- The CIA does not consider employment applications from individuals with mental disorders.
- At the beginning of each season, the writing staff traveled together to Washington for meetings with government officials of various levels from the State Department, the Department of Homeland Security, and the intelligence community, as well as with media representatives.
- Graffiti artists were hired to write slogans for the refugee camp in Season 5, but as a protest against how Muslims were portrayed in the series, they wrote slogans such as 'The homeland turned out to be a joke, just not a funny one.'
- Damian Lewis's character was originally intended to die in Season 1 during the detonation of an improvised explosive device, but producers Alex Gansa and Howard Gordon were convinced not to kill off the character, and he remained in the series for three seasons.
- In the fourth episode of the second season, the vice president's son and Brody's daughter arrive at the Washington Monument in a silver BMW 3 Series (F30 body style), which has been produced from 2011 to the present. In the next episode, he hits a woman with a car, again in a silver BMW 3 Series, but the previous model (E90 body style), produced from 2005 to 2011.
- There is a continuity error in the second season. In episode 11, during the scene at the abandoned mill, FBI special agents corner Abu Nazir; he provokes them to fire with a sudden hand movement, and in the next shot, Carrie clearly hears three single gunshots. However, in episode 12, during the ritual washing of Abu Nazir's body on a US Navy ship, at least five fresh gunshot wounds are visible on the deceased's chest, and one more below the chest on the right.
