What's left behind the scenes

  • Since screenwriter John Logan had never been involved in creating television shows like this before, he didn't write a pilot script, but went straight to writing the first two episodes. When he had the opportunity to pitch it to the Showtime channel, he wrote an additional 40-page description of the characters and the plot. Ultimately, the channel decided to buy the show.
  • A fictional language is used in the second season. It is a blend of Aramaic, Ancient Greek, Latin, and one little-known dialect of Arabic. The language was created specifically for this project.
  • Sarah Green mentioned in an interview that applying the makeup for Hecate and the other witches took several hours. The breasts and genitals were prosthetics. Once, an actress forgot about the ban on consuming alcohol before makeup application, as alcohol excreted through sweat neutralizes the adhesive, and one of her prosthetic breasts fell off during filming.
  • According to executive producer John Logan, Dorian Gray's look is owed to actor Reeve Carney, who dresses in a similar manner.
  • To develop his character's pronunciation, Simon Russell Beale based his accent on that of the famous playwright Tom Stoppard. Born in Czechoslovakia, Stoppard's family fled to Singapore at the start of the German invasion and later moved to India, where his mother remarried a British Army major. As a result, echoes of various languages can be heard in Stoppard's pronunciation.
  • The London Grand Guignol is not a real theater; it was created exclusively for the series. In reality, the Grand Guignol was a Parisian theater of horror, one of the founders and pioneers of the horror genre. It operated in the Pigalle district from April 13, 1897, to January 5, 1963.
