What's left behind the scenes

In the pilot episode of 'Brothers & Sisters', the main characters' last name was March, not Walker. The family matriarch was named Eva and was played by stage actress Betty Buckley. However, the network decided to replace her with Sally Field and rename the character Nora.
When the show's creators were looking for an actor to play the brother of the character played by Rob Lowe, Lowe suggested John Barrowman, with whom he had performed in London theater. They contacted Barrowman, and although he initially agreed, he ultimately declined to participate because he could not balance it with filming the series 'Torchwood' (2006-2011).
