What's left behind the scenes

All scenes featuring Davina McCall were filmed in a single day; thereafter, a mannequin was used exclusively in scenes where her presence was required. The actress later revealed that by the end of the shooting day, she was covered in bruises because of how her zombie character threw herself against locked doors.
A passionate fan of the series, Simon Pegg nevertheless expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that the zombies on screen are depicted as "fast"—as in Zack Snyder's horror film Dawn of the Dead (2004) and Danny Boyle's 28 Days Later (2002). According to the project's screenwriter and producer Charlie Brooker, it was decided not to show the zombies moving slowly and stumbling, as this would sharply contrast with the rapid collapse of society and civilization. Brooker added that he drew inspiration from the series 24 (2001-2014) starring Kiefer Sutherland.
In one episode of the reality show Big Brother, the idea of a virus epidemic in the outside world was played out, for which the producers obtained permission from Charlie Brooker.
To celebrate Halloween in 2009, the E3 channel edited all five episodes into one feature-length film.
The series was filmed by Endemol using sets remaining from the filming of the reality show Big Brother, to which the company holds the rights.
To save on the cost of the contact lenses worn by the actors playing zombies, each actor played several different zombies across various scenes and episodes.
