What's left behind the scenes
- The house in Los Angeles where the actress from Mexico is shown is the same one used in the series 'Narcos' (2015-2017).
- The real-life inspiration for the series' protagonist, Joaquín Guzmán, threatened to sue Netflix and the Spanish network Univision, claiming that the series defamed his good name by recounting his past criminal activities.
- The creators of the series state that everything depicted is a work of fiction and that almost all characters—with the exception of the protagonist—are given fictional names; however, many of them are based on real figures from the Mexican criminal underworld, high politics, the media, and public life. During the casting process, particular attention was paid to the physical resemblance between the applicants and the real figures they were to portray.
