What's left behind the scenes
- Laurie Holden appeared on screen in one episode in April 2015 as Dr. Hannah Trimble. It was intended that she would become one of the project's main characters; however, in August of the same year, it was announced that she would not be starring in the series. Instead of casting another actress for the role, other female characters were introduced into the plot.
- The series takes place in the same universe as other series produced by Dick Wolf—'Law & Order: Special Victims Unit', 'Chicago Fire', 'Chicago P.D.', and 'Chicago Justice'. This means that characters from 'Chicago Med' occasionally appear in Wolf's other projects, and the plot twists of this series influence the storylines of others and vice versa. One of the main characters of 'Chicago Med' is Dr. Will Halstead, who was first introduced to viewers as the brother of Jay Halstead from 'Chicago P.D.'.
- All episode titles in the first season consist of one word, those in the second season consist of two, and those in the third consist of three. This same trend continues from the 4th to the 8th seasons.
- Before the series premiered, Dr. Natalie Manning was named Lily, as seen on the patch on her coat in footage filmed at the very beginning of the project; however, before the pilot episode was shot, the name was changed to Natalie. This character was played by Torri DeVitry.
