Short description

Doctor Henry Morgan, New York City’s star medical examiner, has a secret. He doesn't just study the dead to solve criminal cases, he does it to solve the mystery that has eluded him for 200 years—the answer to his own inexplicable immortality. This long life has given Henry remarkable observation skills which impresses his new partner, Detective Jo Martinez. Each week, a new case and their budding friendship will reveal layers of Henry’s long and colorful past. Only his best friend and confidant, Abe knows Henry’s secret.

What's left behind the scenes

The first scene of the pilot episode is repeated almost exactly in the final scene of the series finale.
On May 7, 2015, the ABC network announced the cancellation of the project after the first season. This occurred two days after the airing of the final episode.
Throughout the first season, Henry dies 10 times—3 times in flashbacks and 7 times in the present.
In the final episode, Adam fires a flintlock pistol for the second time simply by cocking the hammer, without loading powder or inserting a wad and bullet. Several episodes prior, the characters discuss that loading such a weapon takes a full minute.
The word "eternity" is mentioned in every episode.
The series' protagonist, Henry "Hank" Morgan, who is over 200 years old, shares his name with the central character of the novel "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" (1889) by American writer Mark Twain (1835-1910). Additionally, Henry Morgan was the name of a privateer and Lieutenant Governor of Jamaica, after whom Captain Morgan rum is named.
