What's left behind the scenes

  • The majority of the filming took place in Belgium, specifically in Bruges, Ghent, and their surroundings. The Gothic hall of the Bruges city hall served as the filming location for the Palace of Westminster. The Church of Our Lady stood in for St Stephen's Chapel, the debating chamber of the House of Commons. Scenes featuring the streets of medieval London were filmed on the historic Holy Spirit street. The Tower of London was filmed in the Basilica of the Holy Blood. In Ghent, filming took place at Gravensteen castle, St. Peter's Abbey, St. Bavo's Abbey, the Castle of Gerald the Devil, the shopping rows, and St. Bavo's Cathedral. Additionally, the towns of Rembeke and Damme served as location sites—a total of 23 locations for the first three episodes. The remaining interiors and sets were constructed near the Philips factory.
  • Edward IV was played by Max Irons, his descendant and a very distant relative.
  • Tom Cruise chose Rebecca Ferguson to play his partner in the thriller 'Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation' (Christopher McQuarrie, 2015) after seeing her role in this mini-series.
  • When Countess Anne Warwick tells her daughter Isabella Neville about the death of her first child, she refers to the child in the masculine gender. In reality, outside of Calais, Lady Isabella gave birth to a daughter named Anne York, who lived for only one day.
