What's left behind the scenes

Francis mentions that many consider him weak and sickly because of a portrait in which he is depicted as such. The artist told him to sit while his sister stood beside him, and therefore he looks small in comparison to her. In real life, Francis was indeed a sickly teenager and continued to suffer from frequent illnesses as an adult.
Regarding the characters based on real historical figures, the series creators made the most changes to the image of Claude Valois (1547-1575). In reality, she married at age 11 and died in childbirth at 27. She had nine children, and her life was by no means full of romantic adventures.
