Short description

The pirate adventures of Captain Flint and his men twenty years prior to Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic “Treasure Island.” Flint, the most brilliant and most feared pirate captain of his day, takes on a fast-talking young addition to his crew who goes by the name John Silver. What's left behind the scenes

  • A detailed full-scale mockup of the ship was created specifically for the series. Approximately three hundred people worked on the construction of a single ship.
  • Filming for the second season began in Cape Town (South Africa) in November 2013.
  • This is a sort of prequel to Robert Louis Stevenson's (1850-1894) novel 'Treasure Island' (1883), but Charles Vane, Jack Rackham, Edward Teach, Israel Hands, and Anne Bonny actually existed and pirated in the Caribbean Sea.
  • Despite the title, there are no ships in the film—pirate or otherwise—with black sails. Sea salt would have instantly turned them a dirty gray.
