As a 25-year old artist, inventor, swordsman, lover, dreamer and idealist, he struggles to live within the confines of his own reality and time as he begins to not only see the future, but invent it.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Leonardo da Vinci did not independently conclude that everything revolves around the sun rather than the sun around the earth; this assertion was first made by Copernicus nine years before Leonardo's birth (in 1443), and it was these views that Leonardo shared.
  • Actor Paul Rhys, who plays the role of Vlad the Impaler, plays the role of Leonardo da Vinci himself in the series 'The Borgias'.
  • Amerigo Vespucci was the cartographer after whom the continent of America is named.
  • Each episode of every season is named after one of the Tarot cards.
  • As soon as the Starz channel announced that there would be no fourth season, the series' creative team returned to the set to reshoot several scenes to give the project a sense of closure.
  • The series constantly mentions the Vitruvian Man, with Leonardo da Vinci frequently presenting the drawings, but these drawings are dated 1490–1492 (when Leonardo was 38–40). A parachute is also mentioned, although its invention is actually dated 1483–1495 (when Leonardo was 31–43). Furthermore, the series repeatedly shows Leonardo sketching birds, yet sketches of bird flight are actually dated 1505 (when Leonardo was 53). Meanwhile, in the series, Leonardo da Vinci is only 25 years old.
  • In the series, where Leonardo da Vinci is only 25, a spyglass and its lenses are shown, but in reality, it wasn't until 1509 (when Leonardo was 57) that he drew a two-lens tube.
  • Leonardo da Vinci only designed the submarine in 1502 (when he was 50), not at 25 as depicted in the film.
  • Binoculars appear as a device in the series. In reality, binoculars were invented a century after Leonardo's death.
