The series follows the "untold" story of Leonardo Da Vinci: the genius during his early years in Renaissance Florence. As a 25-year old artist, inventor, swordsman, lover, dreamer and idealist, he struggles to live within the confines of his own reality and time as he begins to not only see the future, but invent it.

Leonardo da Vinci did not independently conclude that everything revolves around the sun rather than the sun around the earth; this assertion was first made by Copernicus nine years before Leonardo's birth (in 1443), and it was these views that Leonardo shared.

A parachute is also mentioned, although its invention is actually dated 1483–1495 (when Leonardo was 31–43). Furthermore, the series repeatedly shows Leonardo sketching birds, yet sketches of bird flight are actually dated 1505 (when Leonardo was 53). Meanwhile, in the series, Leonardo da Vinci is only 25 years old.
