Series 3
Series 3, the final series, starts three years on from the last series, five years on from the start with a bold new crime story which forces us to ask whether the town has a crack running through it caused by Danny Latimer’s death; is this new crime somehow the long-term legacy of that dark moment?

What's left behind the scenes

  • The county of Wessex, where Broadchurch is located, is a product of the imagination of writer and poet Thomas Hardy (1840-1928). In the series, there is a detective inspector with the same last name.
  • Almost all the actors cast in the first season were told that any one of their characters could be the killer. Only Jodie Whittaker, who played the victim's mother, knew for certain that she was not the killer (though she didn't know who it was). While filming one of the episodes around the middle of the first season, she asked the show's creator about it, but Chris Chibnall told her nothing.
  • The building of the University of Exeter, founded in 1922, serves as the Wessex County Criminal Jury Court.
  • The Labrador that follows Susan Wright, played by Polly Quirke, belongs to the actress. The dog's name is Bailey.
  • There is a mistaken belief that the series "Murder on the Beach" (2013) is a remake of the series "The Killing" (2007-2012), a joint production of Denmark, Sweden, and Norway, and that the events in the film predate those in the series by at least five years. In reality, Chris Chibnall came up with the idea for the series long ago and began working on the script as early as 2002. However, it took him 10 years to actually film the series.
