What's left behind the scenes
- Actress Sandra Oh originally auditioned for the role of Dr. Bailey.
- Each episode of the series is named after songs by famous artists. Some of them are named after songs by The Beatles.
- Kate Walsh's character, Addison Shepherd, was originally planned for only five episodes, but significant interest and support from fans led to her character remaining in the series.
- Isaiah Washington was forced to leave the series after the third season due to a scandal that broke out at the Golden Globe Awards, during which it was revealed that Washington had repeatedly insulted his colleague T.R. Knight, referencing his non-traditional sexual orientation.
- Kevin McKidd's character wears a Panerai PAM196 chronograph.
- Alex Karev was not in the original script for the pilot episode. He was added later, after the pilot had already been filmed, partly through the use of computer technology.
- In one of the early episodes, Meredith posts an ad looking for roommates for her house. This ad appears on screen for only one second. One of the requirements for potential roommates states that Bush supporters are not welcome.
