Short description

What's left behind the scenes
- While preparing for the role, David Suchet reread all of Agatha Christie's (1890–1976) works featuring the famous detective. He noted all of Poirot's character traits from the books to better study the hero whose image he was to embody on screen.
- Hercule Poirot was noticeably heavier than David Suchet. Because of this, the actor had to wear costumes with padding and stand-up collars with slanted corners.
- Initially, David Suchet had to alter his hairstyle to look balding like Poirot (later, this became unnecessary as the actor actually began to go bald). This was done before filming all episodes except for 'The Mysterious Affair at Styles' (1990), which told the story of Poirot's past and his very first case in England.
- During the filming of the first season, David Suchet nearly left the project due to disagreements with the director. The actor insisted on a detailed on-screen portrayal of all his character's habits and mannerisms (for example, how the detective wipes a bench with a handkerchief before sitting down).
- Even before filming began, David Suchet would put on his character's costumes and play Hercule Poirot at home with his family. This made it easier for the actor to transform into his character in front of the camera.
- David Suchet became so accustomed to his character that he understood what an emotional shock the death in the episode 'Curtain: Poirot's Last Case' (2013) would be for him. The actor asked the show's writers to film the scene of his character's death one of the first, so that in the final episodes filmed for the series—and the show—he could play Hercule Poirot while he was still alive.
- Hercule Poirot solves some crimes in 1935 (for example, the 1989 episode 'The Murder of ওকে Muse', which mentions Guy Fawkes Night celebrated on November 5, 1935). However, the building in central London where the detective's apartment is located was not built until 1936.
