Short description
This spooky anthology series for kids recounts ghost stories told by the young members of the Midnight Society as they gather around a campfire. Each episode opens with members of the Midnight Society at their secret spot in the woods, where they prepare their fire and the night's storyteller announces the title of the his or her offering. However, the cameras soon leave the storyteller and switch to the tale being told.

What's left behind the scenes
- When the series creator D.J. McHale was informed that the Nickelodeon channel had given the green light for the next season, he sent assistants to scout for filming locations around Montreal. At that time, he had no ideas for the plots of future episodes. When the assistants began showing him the selected locations, if he liked a place, McHale would start working on a plot, 'tailoring' it to fit the landscape he liked.
- D.J. McHale wrote a screenplay for a feature film based on the series. The script was purchased by Paramount Pictures, but the project never progressed beyond that point.
- The series' pilot episode aired on the evening of Halloween in 1990. Upon learning this, the series creator D.J. McHale was furious, believing that teenagers would be too busy celebrating to sit in front of their televisions. McHale feared the pilot would fail to attract attention and the series would be canceled. When this didn't happen, he was pleasantly surprised.
- Many scenes were filmed in active cemeteries, but Canadian law prohibits showing the names of the deceased engraved on headstones. As a result, the film crew had to bring mock tombstones with names to the cemeteries and place them in front of the cameras.
- In search of actors for the series, its creator D.J. McHale personally traveled across all of North America.
- Many of the forest scenes were filmed in an arboretum where the use of mosquito repellents was strictly forbidden. Consequently, many shots were included in the series not because the actors performed particularly well in those instances, but because that was the only take where no one was swatting away blood-sucking insects.
- All the scenes by the night campfire in the forest were actually filmed in a studio pavilion in Quebec, Canada.
