What's left behind the scenes

The film's soundtrack was recorded in collaboration with the Latvia State Academic Choir and Latvian Radio.
Some scenes were filmed at Palace Square in Saint Petersburg and in the Assumption Cathedral, as well as on the grounds of the Great Gatchina Palace and in its surrounding park. The ball scenes were filmed at the Catherine Palace in Tsarskoye Selo and the Yusupov Palace on the Moika River. The majority of filming took place in Latvia, at Rundāle Palace. This is not surprising, as its architect, the famous Rastrelli, also designed the Winter Palace and Peterhof Palace, making the buildings architecturally similar.
Adrian Edmondson previously appeared in the sitcom 'Bottom' (1991-1995), in which his character's roommate, Richie, constantly read 'War and Peace,' complained about incomprehensible words, and insisted that 'only Russians' were capable of such a thing.
