Short description

What's left behind the scenes
- In the 12th episode of Season 2, titled "When a Stranger Calls," Emma and Audrey hide in a cinema where a movie of the exact same name is playing. This is the psychological thriller "When a Stranger Calls" (1979) by Fred Walton.
- Bella Thorne was offered the lead role in the TV series, but she declined and asked for a supporting role on the grounds that her characters on screen had never been killed off before.
- Chanel West Coast, Ashley Rickards, Tyler Posey, and other MTV stars appeared in the "Killer Party" clip as guests who are murdered at a party celebrating the "Scream" franchise.
- Filming for the first season of the series took place in Louisiana from April to July 2015.
- While filming the slapping scene in episode 5, Willa Fitzgerald, who plays Emma, hit Connor Vale's character, Will, harder than she intended. After filming, she had to apologize to her co-star.
- The ending of the episode "Happy Birthday to Me" is based on the concept of the thriller "Carrie" (Brian De Palma, 1976).
- In the final episode of Season 1, the characters discuss using the landline in Brooke's house (played by Carlson Young) to call for help. Jake, played by Tom Madden, says: "A phone? What is this, 1996?" In 1996, Wes Craven directed the first film of the "Scream" franchise.
- In the Season 2 episode "The Asylum," Emma receives a cassette, and the words "Listen to me" are visible on the mirror. This is a reference to the "Saw" film franchise, where characters are also left cassettes and notes saying "Listen to me."
- The coffee shop where Emma works and which the other characters visit is called The Grindhouse. In cinematic jargon, this term refers to theaters that show so-called exploitation cinema (genre films that exploit popular themes for quick profit). The themes of such films are often related to violence and sex, though not necessarily.
- Starting with the episode "Disappearance," Emma, Audrey, Noah, and Maggie become the only characters to appear in every episode.
- The number of deaths in the first season is 9: Tyler, Nina, Rachel, Riley, Will, Roberts, Hudson, Grayson, and Piper.
- Bella Thorne turned down the lead role in the series "Scream Queens" in favor of the series "Scream".
- The series' characters are based on the characters from the movie "Scream" (Wes Craven, 1996).
- Whenever Willa Fitzgerald's character used a phone in the plot, the actress consistently used her own smartphone (iPhone 6).
- This was Amadeus Serafini's first role in a series. The actor says that he had previously auditioned for three other series and admits that he learned a lot during filming.
- In the season 1 finale, the creators paid tribute to Wes Craven, the director of the Scream film series, who passed away on August 30, 2015.
- On February 22, 2015, it was announced that Joel Gretsh, who played Sheriff Clark Hudson, had left the project by the producers' decision. Gretsh became the second actor to leave the project after Amy Forsyth, who played Audrey Jensen until she was replaced by Bex Taylor-Klaus.
- Bobby Campo and Bella Thorne had already appeared in horror films before joining the cast of the "Scream" series. Campo played a leading role in "The Final Destination" (David R. Ellis, 2009), and Thorne played a leading role in "Amityville: The Awakening" (Frank Halfon, 2017), a remake of Stuart Rosenberg's "The Amityville Horror" (1979).
- The title of every episode in the second season is borrowed from a horror movie.
- The death scene of Bella Thorne's character in the pilot episode was filmed in a single take. The actress later said, "It worked out the first time, and I'm very proud of that."
- Riley Mara, one of the characters, was named after Tatum Riley, the best friend of the main character in the movie "Scream" (Wes Craven, 1996).
- Fun World, the company that owns all the rights to the mask, announced in September 2014 that Ghostface would not appear in the television series. It remains unknown what will happen in subsequent television projects, but Ghostface is indeed absent from this series.
- The character of Noah Foster, played by John Karna, is based on Randy Meeks, who was played by Jamie Kennedy in the Scream film franchise.
