Short description

Inspired by actual cases and experiences, Numb3rs depicts the confluence of police work and mathematics in solving crime as an FBI agent recruits his mathematical genius brother to help solve a wide range of challenging crimes in Los Angeles from a very different perspective.

What's left behind the scenes

While filming the first half of the third season, Diane Farr was pregnant, so her character, Megan, was temporarily "sent" to Washington to explain her absence in the second half of the season (when the actress took maternity leave). The showrunners did not want to explain Megan's pregnancy during the first half of the season, so they hid this fact (and the actress's changing figure) from the audience using increasingly larger folders, bags, tables, computer monitors, and eventually, background actors.
The graduation photo of Charlie (played by David Krumholtz) is actually a promotional photo from the comedy '10 Things I Hate About You' (Gil Junger, 1999).
The university in the series is based on the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, as are its professors and students. Some scenes were filmed on the campus of Cal Poly, and Gary Lorden from the mathematics department served as a consultant for the series. The pilot episode was later screened at Cal Poly, and the screening ended with a standing ovation.
