Short description
During the bombing of Naples in World War II, a cynical businessman helps a naive prostitute, who spends the next two decades desperate to have him reciprocate her feelings.
What's left behind the scenes
- Domenico, played by Marcello Mastroianni, provides Filumena, portrayed by Sophia Loren, with accommodation in Naples. The belongings of the previous tenant are still there, and a photograph of Clara Petacci (1912-1945), the mistress of dictator Benito Mussolini, hangs on the wall. Filumena asks when all this will be removed. It is the late 1940s, so what is happening symbolizes Italy's transition from fascist dictatorship to republic.
