What's left behind the scenes

  • Almost the entire film consists of a sequence of photographs.
  • The plot of “Runway” formed the basis for Terry Gilliam’s film “12 Monkeys” (1995).
  • The film's style had a significant influence on Luc Besson's debut film, "The Last Battle" (1983).
  • "Runaway Train" is the only fictional film in the career of documentarian Chris Marker.
  • Marker conceived the idea for the film after watching Alfred Hitchcock's "Vertigo" (1958).
