Short description

Fast Eddie Felson is a small-time pool hustler with a lot of talent but a self-destructive attitude. His bravado causes him to challenge the legendary Minnesota Fats to a high-stakes match.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The famous boxer Jake LaMotta appeared as the bartender.
  • Cliff Robertson and Jack Lemmon could have played the role that went to Newman in the film.
  • In the scene where Fast Eddie prepares for his match against Minnesota Fats, his manager sits opposite a poster of Willie Mosconi, a 15-time world billiards champion. Mosconi himself will make a cameo 10 minutes later.
  • Newman and Jackie Gleason perform all their own pool shots. Except for one – when the cue ball sends two balls into the same pocket.
