Short description
Vittoria is a beautiful literary translator living in Rome. After splitting from her writer boyfriend, Riccardo, Vittoria meets Piero, a lively stockbroker, on the hectic floor of the Roman stock exchange. Though Vittoria and Piero begin a relationship, it is not one without difficulties, and their commitment to one another is tested during an eclipse.
What's left behind the scenes
- The film was cut by 21 minutes in Soviet cinema distribution.
- The Roman Stock Exchange was filmed on Sundays, when it was closed. To enhance realism, actual brokers were filmed in these scenes.
- In the US, some distributors of the film were so dismayed by the 'silent' ending that they simply cut the last 7 minutes of the film, while today they are considered one of the most iconic scenes in all of Michelangelo Antonioni's work.
- As part of the preparation for filming, Michelangelo Antonioni visited Florence, where he filmed a real solar eclipse.
