Short description
Nearly 20 years ago, Owen Strand was the lone survivor of his Manhattan firehouse on 9/11. In the wake of the attack, Owen had the unenviable task of rebuilding his station. After a similar tragedy happens to a firehouse in Austin, Owen, along with his troubled firefighter son, T.K., takes his progressive philosophies of life and firefighting down to Texas, where he helps them start anew. On the surface, Owen is all about big-city style and swagger, but underneath he struggles with a secret he hides from the world - one that could very well end his life.

What's left behind the scenes
- The episode featuring a stolen tank in the city center and a sniper is based on real events. On May 17, 1995, a man named Shawn Nelson, a US Army veteran, stole a tank from a California National Guard armory and drove it through San Diego, crushing parked cars and city infrastructure. Nelson was shot and killed by police.
- After the first season, Liv Tyler left the series' cast. Family circumstances and travel difficulties during COVID-19 restrictions were cited as the reasons for this decision. At the time, Tyler was living in London and traveling constantly to Los Angeles for filming. When the pandemic broke out in March 2020, severely impacting the film industry, the filming of the second season was postponed to October of the same year, and travel restrictions complicated the process of commuting to and from the set. The writers decided to write Tyler's character out of the storyline (without casting another actress for the role), though they left open the possibility of her return to the series.
- The beginning of the series is a loose adaptation of two real-life tragedies. They occurred on November 29, 1988, and April 17, 2013. In both cases, firefighters from different stations perished; the series depicts the events as occurring at Fire Station No. 126.
