What's left behind the scenes

Rod Serling believed he had coined the phrase "The Twilight Zone." When the series premiered, he discovered that the term was already used by Air Force pilots. It refers to the region along the line separating the part of the Earth in darkness from the part where the sun is shining.
Due to financial difficulties encountered during the filming of the second season, it was decided to shoot some episodes on video instead of film. In the early 1960s, video technology was in its infancy, making editing practically impossible. Filming took place in a recording studio using four video cameras. Consequently, the authors were limited in their choice of locations and, therefore, plots. The experiment was deemed a failure and terminated after six episodes.
Alongside the project's creator and host, Rod Serling, Robert McCord was the only person to appear in all five seasons.
