What's left behind the scenes

  • Ruby Nooby's dagger's ability to cut through the flesh of the possessed is not new. In the very first film of the franchise, Scotty stabs Shelly in the back with this dagger, and she feels pain, which is uncharacteristic for Deadites. At that moment, blood oozes and smoke rises from the mouth of the skull decorating the dagger's hilt.
  • Mimi Rogers injured her back a couple of days before filming, but insisted on performing a significant portion of her own stunts (including fights, falls, and climbing walls)—in cases where she was physically able to do so, of course.
  • Sid Haig auditioned for the role of Brujo, but it went to Hemky Madera.
  • According to the script for the first season, Ash's severed hand was supposed to be kept in a clear liquid in a glass vessel held by Ruby (played by Lucy Lawless). Several scenes were filmed with this prop, but it was later decided that the curved glass of the vessel visually magnified the hand, making it look three times its normal size. The show's creators decided to scrap the cylinder and reshoot all the scenes featuring it. Subsequently, in all relevant scenes, they either used computer graphics or filmed a prop or a real hand.
  • After "Army of Darkness" (1992), Sam Raimi intended to make a fourth film in the franchise. He planned to create a movie that unfolded across two timelines: one corresponding to the ending of the third film's director's cut, and the other to the theatrical release. This idea had to be abandoned due to the obvious complexity of its execution.
  • In one of the episodes, Ash performs a car stunt (he sharply turns the steering wheel and engages the handbrake, causing the rear wheels to lose traction and the car to make a sharp turn). He was taught this trick by William Shatner, who regularly performed it himself on the set of the series 'T.J. Hooker' (1982-1986).
  • Universal Studios did not grant the Starz channel permission to use references to the events of the film 'Army of Darkness' (1992) in the series; however, the series creators managed to bypass the ban. Ash's mechanical hand and his sinister double both appear in the series—both of which are present in 'Army of Darkness' (1992). By killing the double, Ash makes it clear that this is not the first time he has killed and dismembered his sinister clone.
  • The Starz network canceled the series after the third season due to a steady decline in ratings throughout all seasons.
  • Initially, there were plans to make a fourth film in the franchise, but so much material had accumulated that it was decided to film a series instead.
  • The yellow Oldsmobile Delta 88 driven by Ash is the same car used in the original trilogy. It belongs to the father of the series' creator and screenwriter, Sam Raimi, who bought it brand new many years ago.
