Short description

The story of Claire Randall, a married combat nurse from 1945 who is mysteriously swept back in time to 1743, where she is immediately thrown into an unknown world where her life is threatened. When she is forced to marry Jamie, a chivalrous and romantic young Scottish warrior, a passionate affair is ignited that tears Claire's heart between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.

What's left behind the scenes

During the filming of the 6th season, Katrina Bath (who played the main character, Claire) was pregnant with her first child. The 6th season consists of 8 episodes rather than the originally planned 12, due in part to the coronavirus pandemic.
The massive stone in the center of the stone circle, where the women dance and through which the main character travels through time, is a digital replica of the so-called Callanish Stones. This is a composition of standing stones arranged in a cross shape with a stone circle in the middle, located on the Scottish island of Lewis. Beyond this detail, the resemblance to the Callanish Stones ends.
The series filmed at Doune Castle in the village of the same name in the Stirling region of Scotland. This same castle was also used in the comedy 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail' (1975), as well as in the series 'Game of Thrones' (2011-2019).
Sam Heughan, who played Jamie, is naturally blonde. In the books, his character is a redhead, so the actor had to dye his hair for filming.
According to screenwriter Ronald D. Moore, it was decided to use words from the Gaelic language rather than translating them into English. Their periodic use further emphasized the main character Claire's inability to understand Gaelic.
