Short description

What's left behind the scenes

The pilot episode was originally filmed for ABC, but the network did not give the green light for the series during the May up-fronts. Shortly thereafter, Lifetime became interested in the project, eventually picking it up in June 2012.
The series creator, Marc Cherry, stated before the premiere that he had to rewrite Carmen's entire storyline. Alejandro was originally a woman whose friend had a drug addiction and had been sent for treatment.
Roselyn Sánchez appeared in the final season of 'Desperate Housewives' (2004-2012) as the new gardener for Eva Longoria's character. Sánchez's character was named Carmen Luna, the same as in 'Devious Maids,' although there is no mention of this in 'Devious Maids'.
All episode titles in the second season are borrowed from famous theatrical productions, and each relates to the content of the episode, although the connection can sometimes be difficult to discern.
The plot of the second season (the entire storyline with Marisol's new fiancé and Opal's obsession) borrowed heavily from the novel 'Rebecca' (1938) by Daphne du Maurier (1907-1989), an English writer who worked in the psychological thriller genre.
