Short description
Perhaps their strikingly different personalities make the relationship between detective Jane Rizzoli and medical examiner Maura Isles so effective. Jane, the only female cop in Boston's homicide division, is tough, relentless and rarely lets her guard down, while the impeccably dressed Maura displays a sometimes icy temperament — she is, after all, more comfortable among the dead than the living. What's left behind the scenes
- In the 6th episode of the 7th season, when Mora invites Jane to a convention of detective novelists, one of the participants introduces the protagonists to a writer named Tess—this is Tess Gerritsen, the author of the novel series upon which the show is based.
- During filming, Angie Harmon suffered a leg injury, and certain changes had to be made to the script for several subsequent episodes.
- The episode titles are, for the most part, song titles.
- The suicide of Lee Thompson Young, who played Barry, led to Barry's death in the series as a result of a car accident. In the Tess Gerritsen books that served as the basis for the script, Barry did not die.
- On August 19, 2013, Lee Thompson Young did not show up on the set of the series, and it soon became known that he had committed suicide.
