Short description

In a war-torn world of elemental magic, a young boy reawakens to undertake a dangerous mystic quest to fulfill his destiny as the Avatar, and bring peace to the world.

What's left behind the scenes

The hieroglyphs at the top and bottom of the map form a Chinese couplet.
In the English version of the first season, Uncle Iroh is voiced by the legendary actor Mako. Unfortunately, he passed away shortly after the completion of the first book, and another actor replaced him in Books 2 and 3. One of the Ba Sing Se stories, "The Tale of Iroh," is dedicated to Mako's memory.
The characters in the series' opening sequence (降卋(世)神通) mean "Divine messenger descended into the mortal world."
Aang's teacher, Monk Gyatso, shares a name with the current 14th Dalai Lama (Tenzin Gyatso), the champion of Tibetan rights and head of the Tibetan administration in exile.
The movie 'The Last Airbender' (2010) was based on the first season of the animated series.
The name of the main antagonist, Ozai, means 'Cosmos' when translated from Balkar.
