Short description

This partially unscripted comedy brings viewers into the squad car as incompetent officers swing into action, answering 911 calls about everything from speeding violations and prostitution to staking out a drug den. Within each episode, viewers catch a "fly on the wall" glimpse of the cops' often politically incorrect opinions, ranging from their personal feelings to professional critiques of their colleagues.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The scenes in the police station were filmed in an actual police station in Carson, California. According to Thomas Lennon, some female police officers complained to their superiors that his shorts as Lieutenant Jim Dangle were far too short.
  • The lead actors and actresses frequently appear in the series as other characters, although they try to keep their faces hidden.
  • For the role of Raineesha Williams, actress Niecy Nash wore special padding to look larger than she actually is.
  • Almost all the dialogue in the movie was improvised by the actors on the spot.
  • Amy Brasset starred in the pilot episode filmed for Fox. When the series moved to Comedy Central in 2003, she was no longer available due to other projects. Brasset later appeared as a guest star in the 9th episode of Season 1, "Garcia's Anniversary."
  • The finale of the second season could not be filmed at Carson's police station because a police officer had died there. The crew and cast moved to a nearby club.
  • Originally, in 2001, it was intended to film a sketch show for the Fox channel, with scenes featuring police characters meant to be inserted between longer sketches. During filming, the actors involved realized they enjoyed playing the police officers and decided to make a series. They filmed a pilot episode, which was, however, rejected by Fox. Two years later, the pilot was offered to Comedy Central with minor changes, where it was accepted.
