What's left behind the scenes

  • Initially, one of the series creators, Patrick Hasburgh, saw only Johnny Depp in the role of Tom Hanson, but Depp refused, and the part went to Jeff Yagher. Filming of the pilot episode began, but the bosses at Fox Broadcasting Company did not like Yagher's performance, and production was halted. The studio insisted on offering the role to Josh Brolin, but Hasburgh approached Depp once more. He agreed, and all the scenes with Yagher were reshot.
  • A cot in the police station's holding cell was often used for its intended purpose. If one of the actors went on a binge and had to act the next day, they would make their way to the set after the partying and crash right there so as not to be late for filming in the morning.
  • Johnny Depp was reluctant to participate in a television series, but he signed a six-year contract, fully confident that the project would not last more than one season. Naturally, the salary and the opportunity to work with Frederic Forrest served as additional arguments in favor of the role. Meanwhile, the series gained immense popularity precisely because of Depp's involvement. By the third season, the actor was already actively expressing dissatisfaction with having to turn down roles in feature films. Depp began complaining about what he considered poor-quality scripts and started phoning in his performances. Eventually, Depp's lawyers managed to terminate the contract early, and he left the project after the fourth season.
  • The plot is based on the story of a special unit of the Los Angeles Police Department whose members worked undercover.
