What's left behind the scenes
- In the original version of the series pilot, the lead female role was played by Amanda Walsh.
- At the beginning of Season 3, Episode 11 ("The Maternal Congruence"), Leonard, Penny, and Sheldon watch the movie "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" (2000); in this same episode, Leonard's mother arrives, played by Christine Baranski, who had one of the leading roles in the aforementioned film.
- In Season 1, Episode 13, the main characters are choosing the fourth member of the Physicists' Cup team, and Raj says: 'You know who's probably really smart? The girl who's in the show Blossom—she has a PhD in neuroscience.' He is referring to actress Mayim Bialik, who plays the role of Amy Farrah Fowler in later seasons.
- The Belarusian TV channel STV was forced to shut down the series 'Theoreticians,' which was an unofficial remake of 'The Big Bang Theory.' The appearance of 'Theoreticians' was first noticed only by fans of the series and bloggers, who reacted with fierce indignation. Later, the information reached the creators of 'The Big Bang Theory.' At the end of Season 3, Episode 15, producer Chuck Lorre posted a comment on the matter, which was subsequently duplicated on his website.
- In every episode, a new belt buckle can be seen on Howard Wolowitz's belt, usually related to characters from comics, movies, TV shows, etc. (for example, in one episode, it is a bat, the symbol of Batman).
- The theme song was written by the Canadian alternative rock band Barenaked Ladies. Only one verse is heard in the series, but on October 9, 2007, the full version of the song (1 minute 45 seconds long) was released for sale.

- While filming Season 4, Kaley Cuoco broke her leg while horseback riding. As a result, she was absent from Episodes 5 and 6 of Season 4, and in other episodes, the writers had to find ways to keep her cast out of the shot. Therefore, in Episode 7, she was placed behind a bartender's counter, and in Episode 8, she is always sitting, so the cast is not visible. In Chuck Lorre's traditional notes, which appear as text at the end of each episode, this event is played for laughs, requiring all crew members to clear any dangerous activities in advance—from horseback riding to sex positions.
- Sheldon often wears t-shirts featuring images or symbols of characters from the DC Comics universe: Season 1, Episode 1 — The Flash; Season 1, Episode 2 — Superman; Season 1, Episode 5 — Batman; Season 1, Episode 8 — Aquaman; Season 1, Episodes 7 and 13 — Green Lantern.
- The characters Koothrappali and Wolowitz were not in the original script.
- In Season 3, Episode 16, the judge's nameplate reads "JUDGE J. KIRBY." Jack Kirby was an American comic book writer, artist, and editor who, in the 1960s, co-created characters such as the Hulk, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men for Marvel Comics alongside Stan Lee. Stan Lee also appears in Season 3, Episode 16.
- The main characters of the series are named Sheldon and Leonard in honor of the famous actor and television producer Sheldon Leonard.
