What's left behind the scenes

The opening song, titled 'Hey Beautiful,' is performed by The Solids, a band founded by the series' creators Thomas Craig and Carter Bays.
The Bro Code, which Barney mentions so frequently throughout the series, was published by Simon & Schuster in 2008.
The inspiration for MacLaren's Pub—the main characters' favorite hangout—is the real-life McGee's bar in New York. In the series, the pub is named after Carter Bays' assistant, Carl MacLaren; the bartender in the show is also named Carl.
In Marshall and Ted's apartment, much like in the famous movie Pulp Fiction, the clock always shows 4:20.
The TV presenter named Sandy (Alexis Denisof), who worked with Robin, is the real-life husband of the actress who plays Lily.
At the beginning of the series, nobody knows where Barney works or what his job is. This is a reference to the show Friends (1994-2004), where nobody knew what Chandler did for a living.
The actor who played Scooter (David Burtka), Lily's ex-boyfriend, is Neil Patrick Harris's real-life husband.
Season 3, Episode 14. When Barney recalls the women he seduced and dumped, Madeleine Albright can be seen in the photographs.

In Season 6, Episode 10, actor Jorge Garcia appears as Blitz. The series has an alternative ending that will be released separately on DVD. This was announced by one of the show's creators, Carter Bays, in response to widespread fan dissatisfaction with the show's ambiguous conclusion.
Ted Mosby tells his story while sitting across from the children in the year 2030. To ensure their ages didn't change from one season to the next, all scenes featuring Lyndsy Fonseca and David Henry were filmed during the project's first year of production.
