Short description

Wart is a young boy who aspires to be a knight's squire. On a hunting trip he falls in on Merlin, a powerful but amnesiac wizard who has plans for him beyond mere squiredom. He starts by trying to give him an education, believing that once one has an education, one can go anywhere. Needless to say, it doesn't quite work out that way.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The cartoon was the last one made during Walt Disney's lifetime.
  • Walt Disney himself (1901-1966) was unaware of this, but screenwriter Bill Peet (1915-2002) based Merlin on him. This applies both to appearance (Merlin and Disney have the same noses) and character traits (they both love to argue, are both grumpy, but cheerful and very intelligent).
