Sam the snowman tells us the story of a young red-nosed reindeer who, after being ousted from the reindeer games because of his glowing nose, teams up with Hermey, an elf who wants to be a dentist, and Yukon Cornelius, the prospector. They run into the Abominable Snowman and find a whole island of misfit toys. Rudolph vows to see if he can get Santa to help the toys, and he goes back to the North Pole on Christmas Eve. But Santa's sleigh is fogged in. But when Santa looks over Rudolph, he gets a very bright idea...
What's left behind the scenes
- In the original version of the film, Rudolph, Hermey, and Yukon arrive on the Island of Misfit Toys and promise to help them, after which the Misfit Toys are not mentioned again. After the film's release, children flooded the studio with complaints about this injustice. As a result, a short scene was filmed in which Santa and his reindeer return to the island and take all the Misfit Toys to find them new homes.
- On screen, Rudolph appears to be almost a meter tall, but this is an optical illusion. In reality, the fawn is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand.
