Short description

In a tributary of the Amazon, a monster – half-man, half-fish – is captured and placed in a reservoir in a Florida national park to be observed by scientists.

What's left behind the scenes

  • One of the first roles of a young Clint Eastwood.
  • Stuntman Tom Hennessy, who played the creature, nearly drowned during filming when grabbing Helen Dobson (actually stuntwoman Ginger Stanley) and jumping from the pier. The scene was filmed at night, and when Hennessy and Stanley jumped from the pier into the sea, they discovered a large number of jellyfish and a very strong current. Hennessy released Stanley, who began to surface, but his creature costume became waterlogged and pulled the stuntman to the bottom. Hennessy simply had no strength to resist the strong current. He was rescued by two local men who were watching the filming from a nearby boat.

The scene was shot at night, and when Hennessy and Stanley jumped from the pier into the sea, they discovered it was filled with jellyfish and had a very strong current. Hennessy let go of Stanley, who was able to surface, but his creature costume became waterlogged and dragged him to the bottom. Hennessy simply didn't have the strength to fight the powerful current. The stuntman was rescued by two local guys who were watching the filming from a nearby boat.
  • The film was shot in 3D.
