Short description
As a result of nuclear testing, gigantic, ferocious mutant ants appear in the American desert southwest, and a father-daughter team of entomologists join forces with the state police officer who first discovers their existence, an FBI agent and, eventually, the US Army to eradicate the menace, before it spreads across the continent — and the world.
What's left behind the scenes
- Two enormous mechanical ants were constructed to avoid photographic special effects, which are quite difficult when using 3D effects.
- The film was intended to be shot in color and 3D, but a last-minute budget cut resulted in it being filmed in black and white.
- Filming took place in Los Angeles and California.
