Short description

Former Avenger Clint Barton has a seemingly simple mission: get back to his family for Christmas. Possible? Maybe with the help of Kate Bishop, a 22-year-old archer with dreams of becoming a superhero. What's left behind the scenes

Maya Lopez, or Echo, is the second deaf superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The first was Lauren Ridloff as Makkari in the film 'Eternals' (2021). Both Echo and Makkari are played by deaf actresses.
Initially, a film was planned, which was even included in Jeremy Renner's contract, but producer Kevin Feige decided that it would be better to make a series for the Disney+ streaming service, and Renner agreed.
Alaqua Cox is Native American and is deaf, just like her character Maya Lopez. Furthermore, she has an amputated limb. Rather than going to great lengths to hide this from the audience, the series creators openly incorporated this detail into Cox's character's appearance.
Darnell Bisoo, who played young Maya, is the cousin of Alaqua Cox, who played adult Maya. Unlike her cousin, Bisoo is not deaf and has no missing limbs, so special effects had to be used for her character in some scenes.
Given Alaquwa Cox's deafness and the fact that deaf people communicate using sign language, Cox's fighting style was specifically designed to protect the hands, placing more emphasis on the use of shoulders, elbows, and legs. However, the development of the fighting style also had to take into account that Cox is missing half of one leg.
