Short description
Columbo is a friendly, verbose, disheveled-looking police detective who is consistently underestimated by his suspects. Despite his unprepossessing appearance and apparent absentmindedness, he shrewdly solves all of his cases and secures all evidence needed for indictment. His formidable eye for detail and meticulously dedicated approach often become clear to the killer only late in the storyline.

What's left behind the scenes
- In one episode, Columbo states that his car is a 1952 Peugeot. However, the first car of this model (the Peugeot 403) was not released until 1955.
- Throughout the series, the soft top of Columbo's car changes color from dark gray to almost white.
- From episodes 1 to 44, Columbo's license plate is 'A44 APD' and is positioned above the bumper. The bumper has two overriders. Starting from episode 45, the plate changes to '448 082' and is mounted on the bumper itself. Additionally, half of the molding on the hood is torn off, and the bumper is missing the right overrider.
