Short description
Akira Fudo learns from his best friend Ryo Asuka that demons will revive and reclaim the world from humans. With humans hopeless against this threat, Ryo suggests combining with a demon. With this, Akira becomes Devilman, a being with the power of demon but with a human heart.

What's left behind the scenes
- It was originally intended to be a hentai series consisting of five parts (hentai is a genre of Japanese animation, comics, and images, the main element of which is the inclusion of erotic or pornographic scenes).
- When Akira remembers his childhood, the original series 'Devilman' (1972-1973) is playing on the television. One of the episodes features a shot from this series.
- Director Masaaki Yuasa is a huge fan of Go Nagai's manga 'Devilman'. He eagerly took on its screen adaptation.
