From the window of Ed Mercer's apartment in New York, you can see the Central Park reservoir, renamed in 1994 in honor of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis (1929-1994).
Brannon Braga, one of the season's lead writers and producers, previously held the same positions on the series 'Star Trek: The Next Generation,' 'Star Trek: Voyager,' and 'Star Trek: Enterprise.'
Jonathan Frakes and Robert Duncan McNeill, actors from 'Star Trek: The Next Generation,' each directed one episode of 'The Orville.'
The series is inspired by the cult Star Trek saga; however, it is neither a parody nor an official continuation of the franchise. Creator Seth MacFarlane has been a fan of the saga since childhood and wanted to revive it in a television incarnation. Interestingly, 'Star Trek: Discovery'—an official series in the Star Trek universe—premiered on television almost simultaneously with 'The Orville.'
The series' opening sequence almost frame-by-frame replicates that of 'Star Trek: Voyager.'
The first live-action series created by Seth MacFarlane. Prior to this, he had only created animated series.
In the television series 'Star Trek: The Next Generation' (1987-1994), the computer is voiced by Majel Barrett, the wife of Star Trek universe creator Gene Roddenberry (1921-1991). The computer in the series 'The Orville' was voiced by Rachel MacFarlane, the sister of the show's creator and lead actor, Seth MacFarlane.
