What's left behind the scenes

  • It is believed that when Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon were working on the original comics for Vertigo, a division of DC Comics, they managed to include far more blood and violence in the plot because they presented the drawings to the editor in black and white. Colors, which made the blood and other details even more striking, were added later.
  • In English, the name Jessie Custer is an anagram of the phrase "Secret Jesus."
  • The series is set in Texas, however, filming took place in Albuquerque, the largest city in the state of New Mexico.
  • During the pre-production phase, Ruth Negga and Dominic Cooper were in a close relationship and joined the project together. Once, Negga asked Cooper to help her prepare for her audition; he read the script, became interested in the project, and eventually joined the cast.
  • In the television series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., based on Marvel comics, Ruth Negga played a supporting character wearing clothes with floral patterns. In the series Preacher, her character is named Tulip.
  • The final episode of Season 1 contains references to the TV series 'Breaking Bad' (2008). The dam where the angels meet is the same location where the characters of 'Breaking Bad' can start over. As the van drives away, a stray dog is shown crossing the street. An identical scene appears at the end of the episode 'Ozymandias' in Season 5 of 'Breaking Bad'.
  • The role of Tulip is played by Ruth Negga, an actress of Irish descent born in Ethiopia. Ironically, the only Irishman in the series (the alcoholic vampire Cassidy) is played by British actor Joseph Gilgun.
  • In the early 2000s, Garth Ennis, one of the authors of the Preacher comic series, approached Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier for help financing a film under their label, View Askew Productions. Ennis, Smith, and Mosier together offered the film rights to Bob Weinstein of Miramax Films.
