What's left behind the scenes

  • When Lito recalls his birthday, his family is watching television. The program they are watching is the final episode of Cuna de Lobos—the most successful soap opera in the history of Mexican television.
  • According to the Wachowskis, the idea for the series came to them late one evening during a conversation about the ways in which technology has simultaneously united and divided people.
  • Comic book artist Steve Skroce, who has worked with the Wachowskis on films and comics since "The Matrix," created the storyboards for "Sense8."
  • On several occasions, real-life events and their participants were used as backgrounds and extras. In San Francisco, a dyke march at a gay pride parade and participants of the Fresh Meat festival were filmed, and in London, a scene at the KOKO club.
  • Filming took place in eight different cities around the world.
  • Some scenes were filmed at Superdawg, a Chicago restaurant frequented by the Wachowski duo.
  • A Bollywood dance number, featuring a song in English and Hindi, was filmed in Mumbai. It was choreographed by Longinus Fernandes, who also worked on the film "Slumdog Millionaire."
  • During the filming period, the creators of the series flew a total distance of 100,000 miles.
  • The Wachowskis filmed scenes in Chicago and San Francisco, as well as in London and Iceland. James McTeigue (V for Vendetta) was responsible for the episodes in Mexico City and Mumbai. German director Tom Tykwer (Cloud Atlas) handled the staging of scenes in Berlin and Nairobi. Dan Glass—the visual effects supervisor for all of the Wachowskis' films—made his directorial debut by filming the episode in Seoul. In total, the Wachowskis directed seven episodes, McTeigue and Tykwer directed two each, and Glass directed one.
