What's left behind the scenes
- Pauley Perrette, who plays Abby, actually studied forensics in college before moving to New York to pursue acting. According to the series producers, Abby's personality traits and character are actually those of Perrette herself, who was simply playing herself.
- During the opening credits of the first few seasons, an aircraft carrier is shown passing under the famous Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. This is footage from Peter Hyams' action movie 'The Presidio' (1988), in which Mark Harmon, playing a San Francisco police inspector, investigates a murder on a military base.
- A young Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon) is played by Sean Harmon, the actor Mark Harmon's son.
