What's left behind the scenes

  • Alexandra Daddario, Teresa Palmer, Jessica De Gouw, and Marin Ireland were considered for the role of Jessica Jones, but the lead role was played by Krysten Ritter.
  • Initially, Carol Danvers (aka Captain Marvel) was intended to appear in the film instead of Trish (Patsy Walker), but Walker appeared instead due to changes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the fact that Danvers would have her own standalone film, 'Captain Marvel,' premiering in 2019.
  • One of Jerin Hogarth's clients in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is Danny Rand, known as the superhero Iron Fist. Jerin was once close friends with Rand's father, Wendell. He was also the one who appointed Jerin (who is male in the comics) to manage his estate.
  • The costume designers prepared at least a dozen options for Jessica Jones's jacket. One of them was a biker leather jacket from the Swedish fashion house Acne Studios, from which they removed "bells, whistles, and other accessories that were inappropriate in this case." The actress used 20 pairs of jeans during filming.
  • Over 600 special effects were used in the television series.
  • One of the episodes of the third season was directed by Krysten Ritter herself, who plays the lead role of Jessica Jones. This marks her directorial debut.
  • In the third episode, 'This Is Called Whiskey,' Jessica enters a store to buy a bottle of whiskey. At that moment, a radio host announces that a listener from Westchester County, New York, has called in. This is the location of Charles Xavier's mansion from the X-Men comics and films, although they are not part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
  • The debut of a character named Luke Cage in a full-length feature film. He appears on screen already possessing superpowers.
  • In one of the episodes, Jessica says: "Whatever doesn't kill us makes us stranger." The exact same words are spoken by the Joker in Christopher Nolan's trilogy.
  • Preparing for the television series, Krysten Ritter gained 4.5 kilograms of muscle mass over two months of training.
  • The auto mechanic in the second episode, "Crash Syndrome," is from Poland. While talking to Jessica, he says "Dobre dziewczynki," meaning "Cool girls."
  • David Tennant became the fourth actor from the television series 'Doctor Who' (2005-2010) to appear in films within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His 'Doctor Who' predecessor, Christopher Eccleston, played Malekith in Alan Taylor's 'Thor: The Dark World' (2013), Jenna Coleman played Connie in Joe Johnston's 'Captain America: The First Avenger' (2011), and Karen Gillan played Nebula in James Gunn's 'Guardians of the Galaxy' (2014).
  • Luke Cage's bar is depicted as the 'Life Cafe' in the rock musical 'Rent' (1996).
  • Jessica Jones first appeared in the comic book series 'Alias.' The television series had to be given a different name to avoid confusion with J.J. Abrams' series 'Alias' (2001-2006). Nevertheless, the protagonist's private detective agency is called 'Alias Investigations.'
  • Mini Minify and Kieran Malkea, who played Robin and Ruben Colby, appeared in supporting roles in the television series 'The Blacklist' (2013).
  • The series contains several mentions that Trish Walker previously had red hair—which is how the superhero Hellcat was depicted in the comics. In accordance with the comics, both her combat training and the security systems installed in her home are also mentioned.
  • In one episode, Jessica Jones drinks a bottle of Wild Turkey, the same brand of whiskey that Frank Castle drinks in Jonathan Hensleigh's film 'The Punisher' (2004).
  • In his first appearance on screen, Luke Cage is wearing jeans and a yellow t-shirt, just as in the comics.
  • The series takes place within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
  • In a flashback, Jessica is shown in a superhero costume. In a comic book series titled 'Alias,' this superhero was called Treasure and had pink hair.
  • The TV series was originally titled 'AKA Jessica Jones,' but it was later decided to shorten the name. However, all episode titles in English still begin with 'AKA' (also known as).
  • Trish (Patsy Walker) is one of the oldest characters in the Marvel universe. She started as a model but eventually became a superhero known as Hellcat. The actress who played the role, Rachel Taylor, was also a model before becoming an actress.
  • Luke Cage's bar was the same drinking establishment featured as the Rosato brothers' bar in Francis Ford Coppola's gangster film 'The Godfather Part II' (1974).
  • Initially, it was planned to make the world of the series more similar to the world depicted in the comics. In such a world, superheroes would be well-known and not considered unusual, and supernatural abilities would be widespread. Ultimately, however, the show's creators decided to make its world less like the comic book prototype and more consistent with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where, among all superheroes, only the Avengers and Daredevil were widely known at the time. At the very least, viewers know that there are more superheroes in the world of the series than just the aforementioned characters.
  • Initially, executive producer and series creator Melissa Rosenberg worked on the project for the commercial television network ABC; however, in 2012, the project was sold, though Rosenberg continued her work on it. Throughout this time, Krysten Ritter remained at the top of Rosenberg's list of candidates for the role of Jessica Jones.
  • Throughout every episode of the TV series, its title is mentioned in some context—excluding the words "known as."
  • Brian Bendis, the creator of Jessica Jones, watched the rough cuts of several episodes and was very pleased with what he saw.
  • Carrie-Anne Moss agreed to participate in the filming after reading the scripts for the first two episodes. The role of Jeri Hogarth was offered to her by executive producers Joseph Loeb III and Melissa Rosenberg.
  • A significant portion of the thirteenth episode, 'AKA Smile,' takes place against the backdrop of the yacht 'Goldfish.' 'Goldfish' was also the name of one of the comic books by Jessica Jones creator Brian Michael Bendis.
  • This marks Rachel Taylor's second appearance in films based on Marvel comics, following Brett Leonard's sci-fi horror film 'Leshy' (2005).
