What's left behind the scenes
- Much of the dialogue for the character played by Kumail Nanjiani was improvised.
- The Mayor of Portland was played by Kyle MacLachlan, while the role of his assistant was performed by the actual Mayor of Portland, Sam Adams.
- The title of the series refers to the statue shown during the opening credits. It is Portlandia, a copper alloy statue and the second largest in the United States after the Statue of Liberty.
