Short description
Kung Lao has triumphed in the Mortal Kombat tournament, defeating Shang Tsung and saving Earth Realm. Now, he must train a new generation of warriors for the next tournament. Meanwhile, an exiled Shang Tsung attempts to thwart Lao's efforts with the aid of supernatural warriors such as Scorpion and Sub-Zero.

What's left behind the scenes
- The series is based on the Mortal Kombat video game series (1992–present, Midway).
- At the end of the first season, Great Kung Lao is killed by the Dark Priests, whereas in the game, the character dies in battle against Goro. This is partially explained by the fact that the series was not fully filmed.
- The creators planned to film a sequel, but despite the high popularity of the first 22 episodes, financial difficulties prevented the idea from being realized.
- Actress Dana Hee, who played Cyanne, was Talisa Soto's stunt double in the first film and played Milena in the second.
- The appearance of the Grandmaster of the Lin Kuei clan, as well as the assassins' costumes, are reminiscent of characters from the Mortal Kombat animated series.
- In the game, the characters Mika, Sora, and Cyanne are named Kia, Jataaka, and Sarina.
- Sub-Zero only has a sister in the series.
- Following the plot of the game and the movie, the events of the series Mortal Kombat: Conquest are meant to take place around the year 1400.
