What's left behind the scenes

  • According to the series creators, the four crossovers were inspired by the trailers of the original film, which showed Stitch in other Disney movies.
  • The character design of Melty utilizes original concepts from the character of Mushu the dragon from the movie 'Mulan' (1998).
  • Pleakley's appearance changes most frequently in the series. In total, he appeared on screen in 24 different costumes and 16 wigs.
  • The episode in which humans are turned into infants during an experiment was created to promote the Disney Baby product line.
  • Screenwriter Chris Sanders and many members of the creative team were very unhappy with how Disney management distributed and organized the airing of the episodes. All the episodes ended up shuffled, which completely confused the fans. The events of the episode "Spike" take place much later than those of "Snafu," yet it was shown at the very beginning of Season 2, while the latter was only the 25th episode aired.
  • The second episode of Season 2 was almost removed from the project entirely by Disney management because, according to the script, Experiment 062 is a chef whose food is so delicious that everyone begins to gain weight. The episode had to be heavily edited and modified to make it suitable for a children's audience.
  • The project was originally intended to be titled "Stitch! The Series," but the decision was later changed, and the name "Stitch!" with an exclamation mark was subsequently used for the title of a spin-off within the same franchise.
  • Due to budget constraints, the format of some episodes had to be changed.
  • It is believed that the episode titled "The Core" was the first to be created; the characters in it are drawn more meticulously and with higher quality than in other episodes. This difference is attributed to subsequent budget cuts.
  • Initially, six crossovers were planned, but these plans were hindered by budget cuts, and only four were produced. The crossovers that were not put into production would have served as links to the universes of the animated series "Brandy & Mr. Whiskers" (2004-2006) and "The Replacements" (2006-2022). Furthermore, the show's creators were unable to figure out how to combine "Lilo & Stitch" with "Brandy & Mr. Whiskers," while as for "The Replacements," due to constant production delays, it began airing only one day before "Lilo & Stitch".
  • Executive producers Bob Gnao and Jess Winfield frequently clashed with Disney management because the company preferred not to touch upon themes of death and grief in its animated projects. When the episode "Remmy" was produced in the second season, focusing on Lilo's grief on the anniversary of her parents' death, some of Disney's management began to object, but critics responded favorably to the episode.
  • In one episode, the main characters turn into insects (Stitch becomes an ant, Lilo turns into a ladybug, and others into a praying mantis and a stink bug). This is a reference to the joint Disney and Pixar film "A Bug's Life" (1998), which features similar insects and even an insect city.
  • In one of the episodes, Lilo and Stitch shrink to microscopic size and enter Pleakley's body. This is a reference to Richard Fleischer's film 'Fantastic Voyage' (1966).
  • The creature from the 4th episode of the 1st season emits an incredibly unpleasant and toxic scent for 48 hours after its gland is activated, making the surrounding area uninhabitable. This is why it appeared in only one episode, after which it was sent back to Pleakley's home planet (Pleakley himself compared the scent to a rare perfume).
  • A couple of tourists named Charles and Mary occasionally appear on screen. According to executive producer Jess Winfield, they are based on executive producer Bobbs Gannaway and his wife.
