Vampires exist. It is the duty of Hellsing, an organization sponsored by the British government, to hide that frightening fact and protect the blissfully unaware populace.

What's left behind the scenes
- The mini-series contains a reference to Baron Harkonnen from Frank Herbert's novel «Dune». In the original manga, there is a dream sequence featuring the «spirit of Harkonnen», similar to the one in David Lynch's film «Dune».
- It was originally intended that the Major, the primary antagonist of the source manga, would appear in the miniseries. This idea had to be abandoned because there was too little material involving the Major at the start of the anime's production, and the antagonist Incognito was created instead.
- When work on this mini-series began, only two volumes of the manga and a few additional chapters in monthly magazines had been released. A significant portion of the anime's plot consists of original material.
- The character voiced by Nati Nozawa is based on Edward Van Sloan, who played Van Helsing in Tod Browning and Karl Freund's horror film «Dracula» (1931).
